International Baccalaureate for University Preparation

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an educational programme that serves as an alternative to A-levels for students planning to attend university. The IB programme is taught in 143 countries to students aged 16–19.

Virtual International School offers exam preparation through one-on-one sessions and small group classes. Most of our teachers are graduates of prestigious universities and active IB examiners, ensuring they understand the intricacies of the IB exam preparation process.

How is the programme structured?

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a comprehensive course that prepares students for university admission, culminating in examinations taken at accredited testing centres. It includes:

  • Writing an essay in a chosen discipline,
  • A “Theory of Knowledge” course, aimed at developing critical thinking,
  • In-depth study of selected subjects,
  • Personal development through creative, physical, and service-oriented activities.

The IB offers many advantages, such as:

  • In-depth academic knowledge across disciplines,
  • Holistic development of students’ intellectual and emotional skills,
  • Bilingual proficiency through the study of at least two languages,
  • Mastery of traditional academic disciplines,
  • Critical exploration of knowledge via the unique “Theory of Knowledge” course,
  • Effective preparation for university demands.

During university, IB graduates demonstrate stronger time management and adaptability to heavy workloads. The skills they acquire foster success in higher education and beyond.

What subjects are taught in the IB?

Students aged 16–19 can pursue the IB Diploma Programme as part of pre-university preparation. The curriculum spans six subject groups:

  1. Language and Literature,
  2. Foreign Language,
  3. Individuals and Societies,
  4. Sciences,
  5. Mathematics,
  6. The Arts.

Students select one subject from each group (including two languages, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics) to create a tailored academic pathway. This flexibility allows them to explore personal interests while building a robust foundation for university.

The IB equips students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in competitive university environments. Regardless of their future path, participation in the IB fosters lifelong learning and prepares students for bachelor’s, master’s, and professional pursuits.

A complete alternative to the IB is the A-level programme, whose successful completion also facilitates admission to global universities. Virtual International School specialists can provide detailed guidance on programme selection to align with your academic goals.
